Nürburgring, 24 June 2011 – On behalf of Aston Martin, the company’s Chief Executive Dr Ulrich Bez today presented a cheque for £100,000 to Toyota Motor Corporation President, Akio Toyoda which will be directed to charities providing aid to victims of the recent earthquakes and Tsunami in Japan.
The presentation took place at the Nürburgring where both Chief Executives are currently supporting their respective teams in the 24 hour race held at the German circuit this weekend. Dr Bez will lead the driver team piloting two examples of Aston Martin’s new V12 Zagato endurance race car concept both of which are sporting a special ‘Heart for Japan’ dedication to symbolise the company’s support.
At the annual Aston Martin Bonhams auction held last month, Dr Bez offered his company Rapide for auction in a bid to raise funds which could be directed to charities working on providing support to victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami to hit the region. The Rapide was purchased by long–time Aston Martin enthusiast David Linley, a world renowned furniture designer, as he recognized the importance of this appeal.
Dr Ulrich Bez said: “Nobody could have failed to be moved by the recent events in Japan and we at Aston Martin are no exception. After many years’ presence in the market and closer ties being forged with the Japanese automotive business in recent projects, we have many friends in the region and we wanted to do something to help.
“I know by handing the funds we have raised to our friend Akio (Toyoda), his team will ensure that the proceeds find their way to the people who need it most.”
