Richard Meredith and Phil Colley have passed the halfway mark in their epic 16,000km drive in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage from Tokyo to London.
The intrepid duo saw 8,000km come up on their odometer on Tuesday (July 24) as they drove between Samarkand and Bukhara in Uzbekistan.
This landmark was reached exactly on schedule, a tribute to both the drivers and their factory-prepared car.
Countries so far visited in the drive, which will see them become the first people to traverse the full extent of the new Asian Highway road network and is in aid of children’s road safety charities in developing countries, are Japan, South Korea, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and now (July 26) Turkmenistan.
“We have experienced extreme heat, rough roads, super-smooth highways, excessive bureaucracy, delays, warm welcomes, incredible press and local interest, petrol supply difficulties, and a few scary moments,” said Richard, a 58-year-old teacher.
“But no-one said it would be easy, least of all Phil and I!
“Passing the halfway mark was a significant moment, made even more so by the fact that we were bang on schedule.”
Richard and Phil are expected to end their ground-breaking trip in London’s Trafalgar Square on August 13.
