Aston Martin Racing has joined forces with Spirent Communications - the leading provider of verification, assessment, analytics, and device intelligence solutions - for two rounds of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), while exploring opportunities for a longer-term technical partnership.
4th September 2015, Banbury - Aston Martin Racing has joined forces with Spirent Communications - the leading provider of verification, assessment, analytics, and device intelligence solutions - for two rounds of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), while exploring opportunities for a longer-term technical partnership.
Spirent enables organisations that deliver networks, connected devices and communication services to provide a superior user experience. With modern vehicles becoming increasingly network-connected, there has been a demand for Spirent to test, refine, and optimise all aspects of in-car, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity to provide the experiences that drivers and passengers demand.
It therefore comes as no surprise that Aston Martin Racing was keen to explore how it can utilise Spirent's extensive experience in the automotive industry to help with improving the connectivity, telemetry and data recording from their five V8 Vantage GTE race cars.
“Everybody knows that one of the benefits of a manufacturer going racing is that it can take lessons learned on track with the race car and use them to improve the road car,” commented Jeremy Scoones, Head of Partnerships at Aston Martin Racing. “However, it’s equally important that, as race car builders, we are constantly looking at the latest developments in road car technology and seeing if they can benefit us.
“From the outset, we were very impressed with the high standards demanded by Spirent and that made us sure that they would be a good fit with our engineers at Aston Martin Racing. Following further discussions, we are interested in investigating a few possible projects that could benefit our team in the World Endurance Championship going forward.”
As part of the current 2015 partnership, Spirent branding will be on all five of the Aston Martin Vantage GTEs at the WEC Six Hours of Austin and the WEC Six Hours of Shanghai.
Martin Vickery, director of Corporate Marketing at Spirent Communications commented: “Spirent is at the forefront of accelerating the introduction of innovative technologies especially as the world moves towards hyper connectedness anytime, anywhere. The Aston Martin Racing brand resonates with Spirent’s commitment to quality and performance, so it is exciting to be joining forces for the remainder of 2015 and establishing partnership opportunities for the future.
The WEC Six Hours of Austin takes place on 19 September at 1700hrs.
