2007 FIA GT Championship, the great finale at Zolder – and the Austrian Jetalliance Racing team stamped its authority on qualifying: Karl Wendlinger claimed pole position in his Jetalliance Aston Martin DBR9, Robert Lechner from Salzburg placed the sister car in third position behind Italy’s Pier Giudi (Maserati).
The result marks the third pole position for the Tyrolean this season and the first time that both Jetalliance Racing cars will start in the top three.
Wendlinger has therefore set the early pace in the FIA GT title battle. And how did his immediate competitors fare? Hezemans in fourth, leader Biagi in sixth, Bertolini in eighth – so a true thriller can be expected for the race.
Karl Wendlinger: “It’s really fantastic to get another pole at the end of the season. Everything went smoothly. We’ve laid the foundation for a good race. But it’s going to be tough and hard tomorrow.”
Robert Lechner: “A really difficult qualifying. I’ve been using the soft compound for the first time, and I was very surprised about how much grip I had. The lap was alright. I was able to fully confirm my qualifying performance from Nogaro. I’m really delighted.”
Team owner Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer: “My congratulations to both drivers, but congratulations also to the entire team – simply fabulous. Now we’re all looking forward to the race.”
