As the dry weather holds into the night in the Eifel, all four Aston Martins continue to contest the 35th ADAC Nürburgring 24-hour race. The number 7 Phoenix Racing/Aston Martin Austria DBRS9 holding 5th position with Sascha Bert currently at the helm, achieving consistent sub-10 minute lap times despite patchy fog.
Meanwhile, the number 8 Vantage N24, currently piloted by Chris Porritt, is holding 6th in class and negotiating the hazardous night traffic well.
Shortly before Porritt took the wheel, he remarked: “On my first stint, due to the starting delay, it was difficult to remain focused waiting on the grid for nearly two hours, but we have good air running through the car so it wasn’t too uncomfortable. Once we got going it was important to stay out of trouble and be aware of danger – the surface water, which was more like small rivers in some places, held on the circuit for a while into the race.”
The number 9 Vantage N24 was unfortunately forced to pit shortly before midnight due to a broken engine mount, with the Aston Martin team currently working tirelessly in difficult conditions to complete the necessary repairs.
Dave King, Head of Product Communications & Motorsport said “The crowded pit and the heat of the engine make this repair really difficult and we’ve unfortunately lost a lot of time but we are just about ready to re-enter the race”
The Belgian Herreman team continue their steady climb up the running order and currently hold 7th position in the SP8 class.
